Thermowell Types
Threaded Thermowell
Thermowells are used to provide an isolation between a temperature sensor and the environment, either liquid, gas or slurry. A thermowell allows the temperature sensor to be removed and replaced without compromising either the ambient region or the process.
Care must be taken in determining the material used for the thermowell as well as other factors.Thermometrics offers design assistance that includes pressure, temperature and or corrosion as well as vibration effects of the fluids. This vibration can cause well stem failure.
Thermometrics standard thermowell materials include:
- Carbon Steel
- 304, 310, 316 Stainless Steel
- Monel
- Brass
- Inconel
Flanged Thermowell
The well should extend beyond the center of the fluid stream without touching the opposite wall. Installation in an elbow or tee may be necessary for sufficient immersion in small pipes.
Socket Weld Thermowell
Thermowells are used to shield thermocouple elements against mechanical damage and corrosion. Many variations are available in a variety of materials to meet individual job specifications.
Sanitary Thermowell
Design
– Can be built from standardized components
– Standard lengths for fewer spare parts on stock
– Immersion lengths can be selected individually
– Sensor can be replaced during operation
– No welding seams coming into contact with media
Technical features
– Approvals according to FM and ATEX for intrinsically safe installation of the transmitter
– Thermowell construction designed specially for food and dairy applications
– Installation of a transmitter in the connection head eliminates the need for multi-wire circuit
– Interference-immune standard output signal 4 to 20 mA
Applications
– Food and Dairy
– Beverage
– Pharmaceutical
– Chemical
– Cosmetics
Weld In Thermowell
Weld In Thermowells are utilized anywhere that a welded thermowell is required. Common applications include high pressure and/or high vibration, for example on the steam side of the construction of steam boilers.
